Friday,  January 9, 2026 at 3:25 p.m.; 34 degrees feels like 36 due to bright sun and mild 5 mph winds

I arrive carrying the weight of society and holding dear the beauty of individuals. As I walk, I notice the contrast between light and shadow, how snow still stands in the shade. Small things give me pause: plant and deer impressions pressed into the snow, a father and son leaving new bike tracks on the path. 

I stop and linger at the memorial bench, hearing the boy’s grunts and a bird's chirps. As soon as I soften, subtle movement catches my eye. Bubbles swell, dance, and swirl beneath a thin layer of ice on the walking path. I leave with a song on my lips and subtle sense of hope bubbling up.
