The Purpose of Present to Beauty

Present to Beauty is a invitation to slow down, see deeply, and feel joy. To begin a mindful photography practice, experiment with this rhythm:
Upon arrival, make an image of the first thing that calls attention to act as a warm greeting. After initial introductions, try movement to release mental clutter and center sensory input. When settled, allow encounters to deepen slowly. Make new images with a more open mind. Allow initial new images to serve as small chat, a conversation about the weather. Take plenty of time and and experiment with new perspectives to deepen the connection. As the external noise fades away, approach focusing through a camera as a meditative practice. It might not happen every time, but with practice and patience, there will be moments when something shifts. Stay present for the change. Sometimes it’s the light or the wind, sometimes it’s focus or positioning, but something unexpected shifts and joy shows up to be experienced through the lens. |
Photography then become a restorative practice. Seeing with focused attention brings calm, gratitude, and joy. Returning to familiar places, noticing details, textures, and patterns, and working within simple, repeatable rhythms becomes love and belonging.
